May's Caregiver Ambassador: Donna Flowers

June 15, 2021

Senior Home Companions takes great pride in recognizing our May Caregiver Ambassador of the Month: Donna Flowers. Her nomination was submitted by Katianna St. Henry, Client Coordinator, and she serves with our Naples office in The Villages. Although Donna recently joined Senior Home Companions, she has quickly demonstrated her natural caregiving abilities, especially when managing the most demanding circumstances. Growing as a Professional Caregiver

Beginning her role as a caregiver with Senior Home Companions this past April, Donna quickly demonstrated her commitment and eagerness to develop within our leadership team. "She has seamlessly adjusted to every client situation we've placed her in," noted her nominator, Katianna. "When she encounters questions, she contacts us for guidance rather than making assumptions or guessing. Every interaction she has with our office staff is courteous and professional. She proactively seeks assistance whenever it involves ensuring our clients' safety and well-being."

Embracing Challenging Care Scenarios

Donna eagerly accepts assignments involving difficult circumstances and clients who require specialized attention due to their health conditions. "We've encountered some complex cases and challenging scenarios where Donna has applied her extensive experience to find solutions, communicate effectively, and advocate for the client's needs in a professional and respectful way," noted Katianna. "When she encounters unfamiliar client needs, she doesn't simply surrender. She takes every necessary step to deliver exceptional care quality for our clients." Donna explains that her caregiving career has genuinely become her passion. "I've been providing care for people for nearly 15 years and it's rewarding to be recognized for my contributions," stated Donna.

Exhibiting Positivity and Compassion

Our caregivers are exceptional individuals, and Donna exemplifies excellence in all areas. As Katianna puts it, "She is one of the most positive caregivers I've had the privilege of working with." Our clients have certainly noticed her encouraging spirit and caring approach. "Every client who has welcomed Donna into their home will contact us and specifically ask for her services again," she noted.

"I feel she embodies all the values we hold dear and expect from our care team," shared Katianna. "She demonstrates compassion, empathy, patience, adaptability and many other qualities. I cannot express enough gratitude for everything she has contributed to Senior Home Companions."

Donna's Background in Natural Caregiving

Donna's daughter, Valencia, joined the recognition ceremony and felt immense pride witnessing this special acknowledgment. "I've observed my mom throughout the years and she's always been dedicated," shared Valencia. "Caring for others naturally became her nature. Growing up in Jamaica, our home country, she was constantly caring for family members." Even prior to entering the senior care field, Valencia observed, "She has always been a natural caregiver, just not in a professional capacity. So it's no surprise to see her thriving and earning recognition for her work."

Through our Caregiver Ambassador program, Donna selected to have a donation made to the Alzheimer's Association in her honor due to its personal meaning, affecting both her clients and her own father. "It's a difficult and emotional journey, but I've witnessed people with Alzheimer's and dementia develop affection for me through my care," shared Donna.
