SHC Team Spotlight: Caregiver Enjoys Making A Difference
Meet Senior Home Companions Caregiver Kristen Braiman
For Senior Home Companions caregiver Kristen Braiman, her position represents much more than simply delivering everyday care services to clients across Sarasota, Florida. To Kristen, every client becomes a cherished member of her extended family circle.
This profound connection originates from her own personal caregiving journey. "Following a surgical complication, I became my mother's full-time caregiver when she needed continuous assistance for multiple years," she explains. "After my mom's passing, I spotted an advertisement for a caregiving position and chose to pursue it."
Now eight years into her caregiving journey — including four rewarding years as a Senior Home Companion caregiver serving Sarasota families — Kristen finds tremendous satisfaction in the meaningful impact she creates for both clients and their family members.
"The aspect I value most about this profession is observing the positive transformations we create in people's everyday experiences," she describes. "The significant difference you make delivers an amazing sense of purpose."
For Kristen, her caregiving profession has proven personally enriching. While she acknowledges the excellent services Senior Home Companions provides throughout Sarasota County, she stresses that her client relationships create mutual benefits.
"My clients have shared countless valuable lessons with me! That type of knowledge is absolutely invaluable," she considers. She warmly recalls her initial client, a World War II veteran who had dedicated his life to agriculture. "His stories about history provided me with tremendous insights about earlier times," she observes. "Their extensive life journeys have broadened my knowledge and viewpoint immensely."
Senior Home Companions sets itself apart through personalized care, commitment and significant relationships developed between caregivers and clients in the Sarasota area. Kristen's duties encompass assisting clients with progressive dementia handle everyday tasks, providing support to cancer patients, and conducting mental exercises for individuals facing neurological difficulties.
During her time away from Senior Home Companions clients, Kristen treasures married life with her two high school sophomores in Sarasota. Their family includes two dogs and two cats (although she admits the count frequently changes), and they serve as volunteer foster families for the area Humane Society. She enjoys outdoor pursuits like kayaking on local waters, plus camping, hiking and maintaining her garden.
