Chocolate Sunday arrives on Nov. 7
Do you know someone in your family dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia? We're excited to stand behind Naples families impacted by memory challenges at the upcoming Chocolate Sunday brunch, an annual fundraising event organized by the Alzheimer's Association to further their mission "to end Alzheimer's and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support." Learn more about Chocolate Sunday and how you can help support the fight against Alzheimer's.
What is Chocolate Sunday?
Organized by the Greater Florida Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the 30th annual Chocolate Sunday returns in person for 2021 and will be held from 10 a.m. - noon on Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral located at 650 N Meridian St. Chocolate Sunday includes a champagne brunch and chocolate celebration featuring a silent auction, live auction and special program celebrating the Naples Alzheimer's and dementia community. An at-home participation option will also be offered for those who choose not to attend in person.
Auction items will include distinctive experience packages, Naples "behind the scenes" opportunities, exclusive gift certificates, merchandise from Florida businesses and much more. "For anyone who hasn't participated before, it's truly moving to hear from Naples families impacted by Alzheimer's," said Holly Conway-Eaton, Business Development Coordinator at Senior Home Companions. "Plus it's held at the beautiful Scottish Rite Cathedral downtown, featuring delicious champagne and chocolate along with many exciting auction items!"
How is Senior Home Companions involved?
Senior Home Companions has been proud to serve as a multi-year sponsor of Chocolate Sunday. This year, we're taking part as Signature-level sponsors together with Story Cottage, our specialized residences in Naples for seniors experiencing memory loss. "With Senior Home Companions launching two Story Cottage locations and eight more in development, we work closely with the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Florida to support those facing Alzheimer's and dementia," noted Conway-Eaton. "Working to help accelerate global research and maximize quality care and support are extremely important to us."
What does the Alzheimer's Association do?
The Alzheimer's Association serves as the largest funder for Alzheimer's and dementia research globally. Did you know that Alzheimer's and dementia deaths rose by 16% during the COVID-19 pandemic? Fundraising and support for your local Alzheimer's Association Greater Florida chapter and beyond are helping to assist dementia patients and their caregivers every day. For every dollar they receive from contributors, 78 cents goes directly to research, care and services for those affected by the disease. Another 18 cents is invested in additional fundraising efforts, and the remaining 4 cents covers operational costs for fundraising teams and research scientists alike.
How can I support the cause?
If you would like to support your local Alzheimer's Association chapter, you can contribute and participate in advocacy/fundraising events like the upcoming Chocolate Sunday and other special programs held throughout the year. By supporting the Alzheimer's Association, you join a growing community of contributors dedicated to raising awareness and helping those in Florida facing Alzheimer's and dementia, including many of our Senior Home Companions and Story Cottage clients.
