October Caregiver Ambassador of the Month: Vicki Phillips

November 10, 2021

We are thrilled to honor Vicki Phillips from Angels Senior Home Solutions [shown in center photo] as our October Caregiver Ambassador of the Month. For an incredible 17 years, Vicki has been committed to the Angels Sarasota office, joining them from their inaugural day of service, and she continues to showcase outstanding caregiving excellence.

Vicki consistently exceeds expectations

Our October recipient Vicki received nominations from Angels HR Coordinator Debbie Nelson and Client Coordinator Barbara Lockard. They noted, "Vicki consistently exceeds expectations for every client under her care! She eagerly steps in for other caregivers on short notice and never requests additional compensation when traveling to distant service areas."

Vicki has consistently displayed unwavering reliability and trustworthiness, embodying Senior Home Companions' commitment to serving with integrity, excellence and heart. For Vicki, caregiving represents far more than simply employment. Debbie and Barbara noted, "When speaking with her, you realize this is truly her passion. Vicki treats clients as family members rather than mere work responsibilities! She frequently visits clients with caring gifts even during her off hours. Her mission is to make every client's day genuinely meaningful!"

Vicki's remarkable journey with Angels

Angels Senior Home Solutions launched operations 17 years ago, and Vicki has provided dedicated Angels caregiving from day one. "I've been present since the beginning," Vicki shared. "When they launched their services, I joined their team and have remained faithful ever since. I had considered working in senior care or nursing homes, and a friend recommended Angels to me."

While 17 years demonstrates extraordinary dedication in any profession, Vicki's passion for helping seniors traces back to her early years. "I vividly remember being eleven years old and regularly visiting an elderly woman on a neighboring farm," she shared. "They had no children and I became like their grandchild. She would request that I massage oil on her legs to relieve her chronic pain. Even at that tender age I was naturally drawn to this type of caring work, never imagining it would become my life's purpose."

Guidance for fellow caregivers

Vicki genuinely views caregiving as her life's purpose, so her primary guidance to new caregivers is simply to "remain genuine." When caring for others, you must bring your authentic self and compassion to each workday. "You must truly appreciate yourself before you can fully commit yourself to caring for someone else."

She also understands the critical importance of caregiver collaboration. "Caregivers should view this as genuine teamwork," Vicki emphasized. "We're all one unit. When you enter someone's home knowing another caregiver will continue after your shift or worked before you, you want to create a seamless experience for everyone. We should offer uplifting support to one another."

Supporting our community

Through our enhanced Caregiver Ambassador program for 2021, each recognized caregiver can choose a nonprofit organization to receive a donation made in their honor. Despite serving in Sarasota, Vicki selected Neighborlink Sarasota, which provides home repairs for individuals who lack the physical and financial resources to maintain their homes. "I was particularly thinking about how we should offer support to our neighbors in surrounding counties and cities," Vicki shared. "Even though some locations require travel, they remain part of our broader community. All our communities are interconnected. The opportunity to make a difference in another community... it truly moves me."
